The Great Expansion

The Great Expansion

50 years ago there was an event in Library that drastically changed it’s direction. Up until then, there were about 200 game worlds that were connected library. Then, suddenly, there was a great influx of new game worlds. Because of the nature of the connections to gameworlds, we cannot be certain, but our best approximations put the number of new worlds at around 4000.

Library has always existed as the space between gameworlds, so this massive influx had the major effect of increasing the size of library by a massive 2000%. The city itself stayed at the center of and increasing circle, and new space was now available for settling.

The downsides to this “Great Expansion” were, primarily, twofold: first, the current maps to known gameworlds were useless. While the general order was preserved, there could be any number of gameworlds seated between two that used to be neighbours. Secondly trips to the gameworlds to find supplies now took considerably longer as the distance between the city and the Fringe, where gameworld entrances can be found, were greatly increased.

One curious side-effect to the Great Expansion was that credible sightings of the Player have dwindled to practically zero. Whether the Player is spending time in a gameworld we have not yet discovered, or if the Player no longer visits, are matters beyond the scope of this article.
